Spiral point/gun nose tool geometry (with up to 138 parameters) has been developed and optimised during long-term tests in co operation with users for the different sections of structural steel, aluminum casting, machining steel, VA steels, heat-resistant steels and tool steels. Selected hard coatings increase the range of applications. The objective of developing Swiss+Tech's 'Black Ring' Taps was the realisation of narrower tolerances and more efficient cutting times 
for the thread production.

Machine Taps

A spiral point tap has a chiselled point that pushes the metal chips ahead of the forming threads. This is useful when tapping through-holes (holes that extend through the work piece). 

Spiral Point taps are not recommended for use in blind holes: the accumulation of chips can bind and break the tap.

Sherwood HSS Taps are the general purpose option for thread cutting in most materials including steel, some stainless steels, cast irons and non-ferrous materials such as Aluminium, Brass and many others. Manufactured with a black oxide finish to resist heat, the spiral point for excellent sheering action.

Spiral flute taps are used for machine tapping of blind holes as the have a spiral flute that channels the swarf back behind the tap and out of the hole along the flute.
