Whiteboards

Here at Cromwell, we offer a range of whiteboards, ideal for training seminars, presentations, classrooms or anywhere ideas or procedures need communicated to multiple people simultaneously. We offer whiteboards from brands such as Qconnect®, Offis, and Legamaster.

What are whiteboards?

The whiteboard can be written on and can be easily and quickly cleaned with an eraser or a clean cloth. They are used as part of interactive exercises, brainstorming sessions, and classroom discussions. There is no need to connect whiteboards to computers or electrical outlets and they can be used at any time.

Why whiteboards?

Whiteboards remain usable for years with drywipe markers, along with having low running costs. The strong contrast provided by the bright white surface makes it easier to write on and draw on, whilst the smooth surface reduces ghosting. When spontaneous, quick feedback is required, whiteboards are an effective tool.

When are whiteboards used?

They can be used in many of the same situations as a chalkboard or flip chart because it can be written on and erased, creating a place where multiple people can see and refer to. For presentations in meeting rooms, they are ideal for taking notes, erasing, and rewriting without affecting the pace.

Whiteboard types

Magnetic whiteboard    -   specially coated steel, magnetic receptive, heavy use.
Non-magnetic whiteboard    -   specially coated MDF, not receptive to magnets, moderate use.
Free standing board    -   sturdy yet portable whiteboard offering easy movement between locations.

Considerations when choosing whiteboards

• Size - if you are planning on mounting a whiteboard to a wall, the board's size should be considered. Dependant on its purpose, some whiteboards will need to be bigger to allow more space for writing compared to smaller ones.

• Material - Melamine, lacquered steel, glass, dry wipe, chipboard, and ceramic coated steel are some of the materials that can be used for whiteboards.

FAQs

Do whiteboards wear out?

The surface of a glass whiteboard is completely nonporous, and the glass is tempered to enhance its durability. However, some types of whiteboards will need to be replaced when you can no longer wash your board clean. You will typically see gradual discoloration, as regular cleaning can only prevent staining to a certain extent. The stains normally occur due to the polymer coating on the dry erase markers.

Is a whiteboard better than a chalkboard/blackboard?

Although chalk does not dry out, the chalk dust associated with a blackboard is unsuitable for areas with computers and can cause breathing problems. Blackboards also tend to be a lot messier than whiteboards as you will often get chalk on you and your clothes. Whiteboards allow free movement of your hand due to its glossy surface.
