## What are check and exhaust valves?
In the head casting of an engine where the combustion chamber is located, gases need to be able to flow through the passages for the exhaust and the rest of the engine to work at peak performance. check valves are a two-port mechanism that allows fluids and gases to flow into the mechanism and then out. Exhaust valves must be mechanically opened and closed to allow for fluids, fumes and gases from the car hydraulics to flow through freely.

## When are check and exhaust valves used? 
In any engine, engine cylinders must be supplied with air and gases that then need to be expelled for the mechanisms to work, therefore check and exhaust valves are a necessity to any moving vehicle. It is equally important to maintain check valves to make sure they do not become damaged from natural elements and the wear-and-tear of driving.

*Why do engine valves wear out or break down?*

Engine and check valves break down because of the natural high temperatures they must endure each time an engine is turned on. Dependant on the quality of the valve, how well the engine is serviced, how vehicles are driven and how the mechanisms are cared for will reflect the longevity of valves. However, by design they can not last forever and must be regularly checked. 

*What are the most common problems with exhaust and check valves?*
 
The most common problems that signal for replacement check and engine valves are a change in noise of the exhaust, exhaust smoke, any leaking from the pipe, rust and unusual vibrations.
